eBay photo checker

Check listing photos against eBay's picture policy and photo tips before you list: size, shape, background, sharpness and light. Your photos stay on your device.

What the checker looks at

eBay requires at least one photo of 500 px or more on the longest side, and recommends 1600 × 1600 px on a plain white or neutral background. Your first photo is the one shown in search results, so it's worth getting right.

How to check your eBay photos

  1. Add your photos

Drop in up to 10 photos, or tap to choose them from your phone.

  2. Read the results

Each check passes or tells you what to improve, starting with anything eBay would reject.

  3. Fix and list

Fix size and shape with the eBay image resizer, retake blurry or dark photos, then add them to your listing.

What it can't check for you

eBay's picture policy also covers what a photo shows, which only you can check:

  • No added borders, text, logos, artwork or watermarks: eBay's picture policy doesn't allow them.
  • The photo shows the actual item accurately. Stock photos aren't allowed for used, damaged or defective items.
  • Your photos show every side, plus close-ups of labels, tags and any wear or damage.

Need to resize first? The eBay image resizer makes 1600 × 1600 px photos without adding a border.

Questions about checking eBay photos

Will eBay reject a photo under 1600 px?

Not if it's at least 500 px on the longest side: that's eBay's minimum. 1600 px is what eBay recommends, so the checker flags smaller photos as something to improve.

Does my background have to be white?

No. eBay suggests a plain white or neutral background, so the checker tells you whether yours is pure white, but a plain neutral backdrop is fine too.

How does it tell if a photo is blurry?

It measures how crisp the strongest edges in the photo are, such as the outline of the product or the text on a label. In-focus photos have crisp edges somewhere; blurry ones don't. It's a good guide rather than a verdict, so zoom in and look yourself if it flags a photo.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The checker runs in your browser, so your photos never leave your device and there's nothing to sign up for.
