WooCommerce photo checker
See how WooCommerce's square shop thumbnail will crop your product photos before you upload them, and whether they're big and sharp enough. Your photos stay on your device.

What the checker looks at
WooCommerce crops shop and category thumbnails to a square by default, from the centre. A photo of another shape loses its edges, and tall products can lose their tops. The checker shows you that crop, and checks the photo is big and sharp enough for the product page.
| Check | What it looks for |
|---|---|
| Size | At least 1200 px on the shortest side: our recommendation, so the copies WooCommerce makes stay sharp |
| Thumbnail crop | How much the square shop thumbnail cuts off, and whether your product is inside it |
| Sharpness | Whether the photo looks in focus |
| Light | Whether the photo looks too dark |

How to check your WooCommerce photos
Add your photos
Drop in up to 10 photos, or tap to choose them.
Read the results
The shaded part of each preview is what the square thumbnail cuts off. Each check passes or tells you what to improve.
Fix and upload
Make photos square without cropping the product with the WooCommerce image resizer, then upload them in WordPress.
What it can't check for you
Some things depend on your store's settings rather than the photo:
- If you changed the image sizes, you've regenerated thumbnails so older images update too.
- Every product's main image uses the same backdrop.
- Each image has alt text in the media library.
- The file has a descriptive name: WordPress uses it as the image's title.

Questions about checking WooCommerce photos
My theme doesn't crop thumbnails square. Does the crop check still apply?
No. The checker assumes WooCommerce's default 1:1 crop. If you've set the crop to Uncropped or a custom ratio under Appearance → Customize → WooCommerce → Product Images, your thumbnails follow that instead.
Is 1200 px a WooCommerce rule?
No, it's our recommendation. WooCommerce makes 600 px and 300 px copies from your upload, and bigger originals keep them sharp on high-resolution screens and in zoom.
How does it tell if a photo is blurry?
It measures how crisp the strongest edges in the photo are, such as the outline of the product or the text on a label. In-focus photos have crisp edges somewhere; blurry ones don't. It's a good guide rather than a verdict, so zoom in and look yourself if it flags a photo.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. The checker runs in your browser, so your photos never leave your device and there's nothing to sign up for.
